FINE ART

by Anna Paulsen

"During this school year, I have gained the confidence to talk about my work in a clear, professional way. In my Illustration classes I have found a solid balance of what I love to do and where I plan to go with my career. As I reflect
my body of work this year over all, it is clear to me that my writing and poetry serves as a very important aspect to my artistic voice. I'm inspired by body language, and literal language, delving into feminist ideas and passionate relationships. I use figure drawings to portray this complex language that integrates the body and emotion. To me, the body represents a language that is unfiltered yet mechanically driven by society. The body holds our natural instincts that maneuver through the lens of a predetermined language. How do these different ways of language and communication transgress into a new story or narrative, a story unique to every individual, a story that must be told? I am inspired and also empowered by this question and I seek to continue with this momentum into my senior year thesis."
