"The goal of this project is to bypass the traditional whitespace gallery setting, and give an (almost) free opportunity for women creatives to share their work in an intimate, personal way.

The title of the project refers to and pays tribute to the Riot Grrrl revolution of the 1990’s. I heard their songs, I listened to them speak, and this is my response. These two excerpts from the official manifesto stuck out to me:

 

BECAUSE we wanna make it easier for girls to see/hear each other’s work so that we can share strategies and criticize-applaud each other.

 

BECAUSE viewing our work as being connected to our girlfriends-politics-real lives is essential if we are gonna figure out how what we are doing impacts, reflects, perpetuates, or DISRUPTS the status quo.

Get angry, feel everything, think, make, and be heard. That’s what Dear GRRRLS is about. 

​

Dear GRRLS is a welcoming community of identifying women who are also interested in sharing their personal work through swaps, the sharing of ideas and thoughts, meeting and connecting with other women, or just want some lady penpals. 

​

Every other month, there will be a swap posted on my instagram. You will have the month to send something in to me. At the end of the month, I will redistribute the art and you will receive an envelope filled with art done by different women artists! Please include an unused postage stamp in the envelope so I can afford to send you one back. But if you forget or cannot afford it, I will cover it. THIS IS FOR ANYONE."

 

How it works: Send an envelope full of clippings, drawings, collages, letters, poetry, advice, paintings, new ideas, old ideas, stickers, pictures, stamps to:

At the end of each swap, I will take the art out of the envelopes and redistribute it among  the participating ladies (in new envelopes), assuring that everyone has an envelope in return. This is what the unused envelope is for!
